Your biggest deduction: miles at $0.725

The IRS standard rate for 2026 is 72.5¢ per business mile (up 2.5¢). At 500 miles/week that's $18,850 a year off your taxable income — $4,255 less tax for the typical profile. Uber's Tax Summary lists on-trip miles only. Miles driving to pickups and repositioning between rides count too — your own tracker will usually show 30-50% more deductible miles.

Uber tax forms in 2026 (and the new trap)

What the platform issues

Uber issues a 1099-K for fares only above $20,000 AND 200 trips (restored by OBBBA), plus a 1099-NEC for $2,000+ in promos and referrals. Its annual Tax Summary reports your gross fares and on-trip miles even when no 1099 arrives — and covers Uber Eats too.

The OBBBA threshold trap

Starting in 2026 the thresholds jumped (1099-NEC: $2,000; 1099-K: $20,000 plus 200+ transactions), so many drivers will simply not receive a form anymore. That does NOT erase the bill: all net profit of $400+ must still be reported and paid — the IRS can match platform data even when no paper reaches you.

Owing $1,000+? Quarterly estimated payments apply (April, June, and September 2026 + January 2027) — the full detail, safe harbor included, lives in the 1099 calculator.

Uber tax FAQ

Does Uber take taxes out of my pay?
No. As an independent contractor you receive the full gross payout and owe SE tax (15.3%) plus federal and state income tax yourself. On this page's typical profile ($900/week, 500 miles/week), that's about $4,739 a year — which is why you set aside from every payout.
How much should I set aside for taxes driving for Uber?
With a solid mileage log, the typical profile above pays ~17% of its net profit (federal + SE tax only; add your state rate). Without logging miles the bill rises by $4,255. Run the calculator with your real numbers — your exact percentage shows in the panel.
